Minnesota Teens Encouraged To Participate in Anti-Texting While Driving Contest | Teens Against Distracted Driving

AAA Minnesota/Iowa and the Minnesota Department of Public Safety are encouraging and reaching out to Minnesota high school students to enter in an anti-texting while driving contest. They are being asked to create a 30 second TV advertisement that will be aired in the Spring. The challenge is described as giving teenagers the chance to help spread the word to their friends and community about the dangers of texting while driving.

Lori Reineke was charged with vehicular homicide as well as ‘engaging in actions which distract from the safe operation of a motor vehicle (using her cell phone) in Atlanta this week after striking and killing a man in a crosswalk. Texting While Driving Proven To Be More Dangerous Than Drunk Driving | Teens Against Distracted Driving

An experiment that took place on a deserted air strip looked to measure how dangerous texting while driving really is. With the cars traveling at 70 miles an hour, drivers reaction times were measured in different circumstances. Reactions were measured when the drivers unimpaired, when they were drunk, when they were reading an email on their phone and finally, when they were sending a text message.
